Job shadow description: 
Spend a day in the boots of a DNR Forest Engineer. This job has a wide variety of interesting duties, it is not guaranteed that you will have the chance to experience all of them, but potential opportunities include: • Field visit to active timber sale or construction site. o See an active logging operation, road building site, or hydraulic structure installation. o Compliance of projects is important to make sure projects are constructed the way they were designed. • Interdisciplinary team meeting. o Have the opportunity to participate in a collaborative meeting between agencies. o This may include representatives from the DNR, WDFW, and local tribes. • Mini-internship experience. o Gain some real world experience doing field and/or office work. o Participate in field reconnaissance and design. o Hands on experience with surveying equipment. • Professional discussion with a forest engineer o Ask about what it’s like to work for DNR, what their job duties consist of, professional licensure, working in a public agency vs. a private agency, or other questions you may have. • Meet other DNR personnel to broaden your network! o At DNR, specialists work side by side to manage state trust lands. In addition to spending the day with an engineer, you may have the chance to meet timber sales foresters, silviculture foresters, forest practices foresters, recreation personnel, and fire crews.
Available job shadow times: 
Typically Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm. Dates and times are flexible and based on the student's and employee's schedule.
Length of job shadow experience: 
2-8 hours
Additional Comments: 
Job shadows are available in multiple locations statewide, including Colville, Ellensburg, Sedro Woolley, Forks, Enumclaw, and Castle Rock (just to name a few). Actual job experiences will depend on the scheduled date and the location selected. A volunteer form is required prior to the job shadow.
