The USDA Forest Service, Detroit Ranger Station of the Willamette National Forest is located 1.5 hours NE of Corvallis just 1/2 mile west of the town of Detroit. The Detroit Ranger District is 300,000 acres of federal land located on the west side of the Cascade Crest, including the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness, Detroit Lake Recreation Area, and the Opal Creek Scenic Recreation Area and Wilderness. The District has a goal of resource conservation including a mix of multiple use resources. A diverse set of resource specialists manage resources including: Wild and prescribed fire, engineering of facilities and roads, timber-silviculture & veg. management, law enforcement, recreation/lands & minerals, wildlife, fisheries, watershed, soils and botanical resources. We manage forests for the US for the greatest good in the long run!
