The WFMD is responsible for fire prevention, preparedness, and suppression, including aviation, on 13 million acres of state and private forestland, for protection of air quality through regulation of silvicultural burning and smoke management, for community preparedness, and the Department of Corrections (DOC) correction camps program which trains and provides management and oversight to incarcerated individuals who support and suppress wildland fire.
