Company/Agency Description:
The OSU Research Forests are working forests managed to be a living laboratory and classroom for the College of Forestry students and researchers. The Recreation and Engagement Program provides services to community members who use the forest for their outdoor activities, as well as addressing conflicts that might arise between various uses of the Forests. The R&E Program also supports community education and outreach, using the Forests as a home base.
Job shadow description:
This job shadow would have several components. First, the student would meet with the Recreation and Engagement Program Manager to learn about the various types of projects she works on, and what a typical work experience is like. The student would then go out in the field with the Recreation Field Coordinator to participate in a project, which could include working with volunteers or student workers, trail construction, Arboretum maintenance, or other current project. By the end of the job shadow, the student will have an idea of what life is like for people working in outdoor recreation management.
